I'm relieved to finally be done with the video and kind of nervous about what grade I'll get.

Production blog: Finding Music

Our group decided that we wanted to use royalty free music. This was because it's a lot easier and there is no need for back up plans. If we had to get permission to use a song we liked then there's a chance that we would never hear back from the company that owns the rights to it. If that were to happen then we would have to come up with a back up plan which can be upsetting when you have your heart set on something. With royalty free music we can use any song we want. There are thousands of possible song choices even with the limitation of only using songs that are open for public use. We want an eerie song that is also kind of futuristic. This will be for the actual alien abduction scene. For the scenes where the friends are just relaxing then we will need some calming music to put the audience at ease. For this part of the movie we don't want anything that could give away what might happen later on. We want it to be a complete surprise when Taylor gets abducted. For the calm part there is a song on YouTube called "Dawn" by Seppheiros. In the beginning of the song there are soft piano notes which I think could be perfect for the mood. The part after the beginning adds in drums and snare which is a little too up beat for my liking. I'm going to take a sample from the beginning and loop it so the calm part lasts long enough for the scene to finish. For the eerie music I haven't found anything that's creepy and futuristic but I will keep looking.

Storyboard blog

  1. 1. The movie opens to a fire burning. This will be a good way to get the audience intrigued

  1. 2. The camera will then zoom out to show all our characters as a way to introduce them to the viewers.

  1. 3. Taylor will then suggest that the group roast marshmallows and they begin to do so.

  1. 4. The camera shows Taylor laughing to put the viewers at ease and prevent them from suspecting that anything bad will happen

  1. 5. She then states how happy she is once again comforting the viewers.

  1. 6. Denton describes the day providing a little backstory for the movie.

  1. 7. The camera shows Cecelia and Wyatt right as Cecelia is about to speak.

  1. 8. Cecelia shows her appreciation for the marshmallows and thanks Taylor

  1. 9. Wyatt is reminded and also thanks Taylor.

  1. 10. The camera shows Taylor smile.

  1. 11. Taylor acknowledges their appreciation and says “no problem, guys”

  1. 12. Everyone sits quietly as calm music plays and the camera fades to black.

  1. 13. The camera comes back in to show the group still sitting a little while later. The camera fading away and then coming back represents a tone change from calm to mysterious and unknown.

  1. 14. Taylor suggests that the group should go to the roof to look at stars. This is foreshadowing and refers to what is going to happen very soon.

  1. 15. Cecelia agrees and stands up to begin making her way to the roof and realizes she doesn’t know how to get up there.

  1. 16. The camera shows Denton who begins to worry. This is more foreshadowing.

  1. 17. He then states that it doesn’t seem safe and mentions his extreme fear of heights.

  1. 18. Before anyone could pay any attention to his interjection, Taylor begins to lead Wyatt and Cecelia to the roof.

  1. 19. The shot shows the group from over Denton's shoulder. He is hesitant to follow.

  1. 20. Wyatt realizes and turns to face Denton and sees he is staring blankly at the ground.

  1. 21. Wyatt says that he doesn’t have to get close to the edge so there is no chance of falling off, hoping this would comfort him.

  1. 22. The camera cuts to the rooftop, changing the scene.

  1. 23. The group is shown standing shoulder to shoulder on the roof.

  1. 24. Taylor turns to Denton like she is about to say something.

  1. 25. Taylor asks what Denton thinks and Denton admits that he enjoys the view.

  1. 26. The characters all look fascinated with the view and are enjoying themselves.

  1. 27. A light then appears over Taylor who looks confused. The light then disappears and so does Taylor

  1. 28. The remaining three characters don’t know what to do and have puzzled looks on their faces as they search for Taylor

  1. 29. The screen goes black and shows the writers of the movie.

  1. 30. The screen stays the same and shows the director of the movie. The prolonged black screen will leave the viewers with more questions than answers which will make them want more.

Planning Blog: Title Blog

The title will either be in Showcard Gothic or Times New Roman font. The font will hover in  from the left center.

The credits will be embedded in the scene

For example, the credits will be drawn in ashes near the campfire

Working Title: Abduction

It will be bold and in all caps

The title will float onto the screen from the center left

The title will dissolve after 3 seconds

The font color will depend on the background

The first name of the person who holds the job will be 2 sizes larger than the rest of the words

Planning Blog: Script

We open on the firepit to which we zoom out to a group of four teenagers roasting marshmallows on the fireplace. Taking a pan shot of the scene we focus on Taylor who is laughing and starts to speak

Taylor- I am so happy that we finally got to hang out since we have all been so busy

Focus shifts from Taylor to Denton in a jump cut

Denton- yes, it was a fun day. We hit the mall, then headed to the beach and got some pizza.

It does a quick switch to cecelia and Wyatt

Cecelia- and it was a great idea to end it with marshmallows

Wyatt- yeah, thanks Taylor.

It once again doses a pan shot to Taylor

Taylor -no problem, guys!

As they finish their marshmallows, the dialogue fades and the non-diegetic sound starts to fill in and music overtakes as it seen the group is conversating and laughing with each other near the firepit standing. It turns into a medium shot as the group is heard once again fading in.

Taylor- okay, before all of you leave, let us head up to the roof and check out the stars. Trust me, the view from my roof is awesome.

Cecelia- okay if you say so, it sounds fun

The camera turns over to Denton who has a concerned look on his face

Denton- I am not sure guys, it does not sound safe

The group is already heading up to the roof as Denton is speaking with an over the shoulder shot aiming at Denton as they walk away.

Wyatt- do not worry Denton, we will be fine.

As a jump cut goes to another scene, they are all on the roof looking up at the night sky enjoying the view.

Taylor- see is not this a magnificent view.

Taylor turns to Denton to which he responds.

Denton- yes, got to admit this is great.

They are all enjoying the night view until a sudden bright light appears out of nowhere on Taylor. Before they could say anything, the light is gone in an instant, along with Taylor. All they are left with is confusion and questions.

Title Research: Pokemon Detective Pikachu

After we researched websites that would be beneficial to us. Using the website “art of the title,” I found the title sequence to the movie “Pokémon Detective Pikachu." I chose this movie because it has many things in common to the movie sequence we are trying to create. For example, this movie has many Sci-fi factors in its opening sequence and movie that could be beneficial to use in ours. This movie came out in 2019 making it fairly new, meaning that a lot of the styles used will still be popular today. This allowed us to use this title sequence as inspiration to produce ideas for our very own. In this opening title sequence, they made it a style like a video game. They added music with lots of fun beats. They also used bright colors to draw the watcher's attention. In the opening title sequence, they informed the audience of many people and companies that helped make the film possible. They also introduced the characters and showed who they were played by. They also used lots of cool editing techniques to add fun transitions between each scene/ person. Some of the titles displayed in the opening title scene are the producers and cast. You can almost get a personality out of some of these characters in the opening scene. From what they are wearing to their facial expressions, not one is the same. You can tell that this movie was going to be a sci-fi by the music, bright colors and the elements shown around the characters in the opening title sequence. Some editing techniques that were used in this opening scene were fun transitions to grasp the audience as well as bright colors and zooms, etc. There were many things in this sequence that our group likes, for example, there was fun music in the background that allowed for the audience to get excited for the film. How they brought the names into the scene was also fun and is something my group was highly inspired by. Some things we did not like was the fact that this opening title sequence was heavily animated. We do not have access to the resources needed to make this happen. Overall, this has helped our group know more about what we want and do not want in our opening title sequence.
