Genre Research Blog: Horror

Horror movies commonly use high angles to show a power struggle between the main character and the villain. Very shaky camera movement is used a lot as well. It makes people feel panicked and can be used to make a chase scene more intense.

There is also music that instills a feeling of anxiety and uneasiness. This music may resemble metallic scraping sounds. Music has a significant impact on people's emotions so it must be utilized to achieve certain feelings

Gore is also a very important aspect when it comes to horror movies. Horror is supposed to make people feel uncomfortable and gore is a very great way to achieve that.

Very horrific makeup is important too. Horror movie villains have to be able to scare the audience so production companies use makeup and costumes that instill fear.

Many horror movies feel chaotic and one way they achieve this is by sporadic jump cuts. They do this so the watcher never feels like they get a chance to rest. It keeps the watcher on their toes throughout the intense scenes.

Some examples of horror films are Scream, Halloween, and the Fear Street movie series.

Our group liked that in the horror genre lighting is used in many ways. This grasps the watcher's attention, leaving them to want more.

Our group may have trouble with horror because our pitch does not have very many opportunities for gore or intense scenes. We want to focus more on technology and psychological horror.

Genre Research Blog: Sci-fi

One of the genres we are considering for our movie is Sc-fi. Sci-fi stands for Science Fiction. It is when the items of a film or topic deals with the impact of actual or imagined science upon society.

Common camera angles: Medium long shot, Medium Shot, Close up, Extreme closeup, bird’s eye shot

-These are common camera angles in this genre because they do a good job at representing the idea of the film and what the director wants the watcher to see.

Common mis-En-scene: weapons, detailed makeup, vague lighting as well as different colored lighting, costumes, and props.

-These are used to help capture the audience's attention. As well as making movies or films make sense.

Common editing: cuts, special effects, zoom, sound.

-These are added to make the movie smoother and get rid of the rough edges.

Common sounds: music with odd and captivating beats, sound effects.

-These are used to add emphasis to the film.

Example films of this genre: “Spider-Man- No Way Home” “Godzilla Vs. Kong” “Stowaway” “Free Guy

-These are all movies that represent the sci-fi genre.

Elements we like: The lighting we would use would be different from the lighting we have used before. Therefore, this would be fun to use in our opening sequence. It would also be fun to find music and sounds that go along with our film. The camera angles we would also use would be fun to experiment with due to the fact we have not used all of them before.

Elements we dislike: Some elements that are unappealing to us or would challenge us are the act of costumes and editing in this. The editing of a Sci-fi movie could be challenging. Especially for beginners like us.

Pitch Blog

For our opening movie sequence, we have come up with two ideas that we had to pick between. Our first idea was an alien abduction, and our second idea was a mafia boss situation.

Pitch 1- Mafia Boss

A man pulls up to a warehouse in fancy sports car, he is wearing a suit. He sees a duffle bag full of cash, he looks around for traps, grabs the bag gets in the car and starts a phone call as he is driving away.

Why we would choose pitch one:

This film would be interesting to make because of the idea of it being in multiple locations in a small period of time. This film would also be interesting because there would be a lot of angles that we have not used in our videos yet. We would also have fun working with the costumes and lighting to figure out what is best for our film. However, getting a warehouse could be difficult to achieve in this situation. Also getting the lighting right could be difficult due to the time this would take place.

Pitch 2

A teen is enjoying time alone until something unexpected happens. They are then visited by intelligent life.

Why we would choose pitch two:

This pitch would work well because it offers a great opportunity for a cliffhanger. This is important because it will make the watcher want more. The topic of aliens and intelligent life has always been fascinating to humans. Therefore, this would captivate their attention. This pitch would also allow us to explore the limits of lighting and costumes.

Pitch chosen: Teen is alone and visited unexpectedly by intelligent life.

Why we chose the second pitch: We chose this because the topic interested us more, We also wanted to push our limits and work with lighting and different angles. We also agreed that the setting would be easier to accomplish. Therefore, this led us to the decision of the alien abduction.

FT Group blog

This time I will be working with 3 people. Cecelia Torres, Denton Greenleaf and Taylor Lamont. I trust these people to do their parts and i'm hoping everything will go smoothly. I haven't done an AICE media project with other people so i'm anxious to see how it will turn out. I'm excited to be able to divide the work up so it isn't as much. I also want to do my best so i don't let down my group members. Now my work may affect other peoples grades and vice versa. I might miss working alone because i could work on my own terms. The final result would be what I want it to be. Now its going to be the creation of 4 different people. It could be completely different then what I imagine. This will definitely be a different experience but that might be a good thing. With other minds contributing then the project could be enhanced. I'm nervous but i'm sure it will turn out fine in the long run. Only time will tell.

Final Task Intro blog

My name is Wyatt McKaskle and I was born in Del Rio, Texas on September, 9th 2005. My dad's name is Lucas McKaskle and he was born in the same town that I was born in. My mother is Barbara Harman and she was born in Orlando, Florida. My favorite food is a tie between hamburgers and pizza because they're both so good I just can't choose. My favorite hobby is playing cards with family and friends. My favorite card game is poker because of the risk you have to take in order to win. It takes luck but skill does come into play. My favorite TV show is Hunter X Hunter. It's about a boy who becomes a monster hunter to try and find his father. My favorite sport is football. I like it because of how intense it can be during a good game. I enjoy playing it too but I haven't played it in a long time. My favorite football team is the San Francisco 49ers because of the colors. I love the red and gold. They remind me of royalty or wealth. I'm excited to apply my new skills to the final project. It's going to be interesting because some new features were added which might change the whole dynamic of this project. I'm curious as to how my skills will apply to the new features.

Final task video

I'm relieved to finally be done with the video and kind of nervous about what grade I'll get.
